Teaching
Prof. Reinisch also incorporates the topic of this research project in his teaching.
He developed a course on "International Standards of Investment Protection" which he taught within the framework of the newly established LL.M. Program in International Legal Studies at the University of Vienna/Law School for the first time in Winter Semester 2007/2008. This course aimes at providing an overview on central topics of international investment law. It traces the traditional approach of regulating foreign direct investments in customary international law and focuses on the present state of investor protection through bilateral as well as some multilateral agreements containing investment provisions, like NAFTA Chapter 11 or the Energy Charter Treaty. Substantive standards, such as fair and equitable treatment, full protection and security, most-favored-nation treatment and national treatment as well as the protection against expropriation merit special attention.
In March 2008 Prof. Reinisch held a series of guest lectures as a Visiting Professor at Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales.
In Winter Semester 2006/2007 Prof. Reinisch taught a graduate seminar at the University of Vienna, in which students gave presentations and wrote seminar papers on various topical issues of investment law and arbitration.
